Information for apprentices 19+

Apprentices are entitled to at least £3.40 pay per hour if they are under 19 or in the first year of the apprenticeship. After that, apprentices are entitled to the national minimum wage for their age bracket.

For those who train on an apprentice as part of the career progression, we would expect normal employment terms and conditions to remain unchanged, including salary.

Some learners have been working for many years and use apprenticeship funding to support their continued learning and development. We would expect their normal employment terms and conditions to remain unchanged, including their salary.

If an apprentice is aged 19 or over at the start of the apprenticeship, the government will only partially fund the tuition fees, up to a maximum of 50%.

Activate Enterprise operates a reasonable and competitive fees policy to support the remaining contribution towards the cost of the training. It is expected that employers will pay these fees for tuition, not the apprentices themselves.
